Albert Einstein once said, “creativity is intelligence having fun” and he couldn’t be more accurate when it comes to a creative master’s degrees (Scialabba, 1984). As an aspiring digital content creator, I knew that I required further education to provide future clients with the best marketing strategies and creative content. Whatever your reason’s for reading this blog, master’s degrees are a renowned way of making yourself more appealing to employers. Prospects define a master’s degree as an education that “enables you to study an area of interest in more depth” (Prospects, 2021). Postgraduate degrees take passion and dedication and are no easy process. That is why I chose the University of Salford, as they have many masters courses that make creative learning fun through real world freelance briefs.
My time at Salford not only improved my professional practise and portfolio, but has introduced me to a new city, new network of co-creators and expanded my knowledge of a subject I am passionate about. This has included working for local Manchester clients, producing and editing content for the likes of McCann and Northern Roots. I have been able to establish my business Alice Rose Creative, and I can now graduate as a reputable freelance content creator. The business school in particular taught me a lot about social media marketing practises that I can use to promote my business in years to come. Overall, the Salford Business School has truly set me up for my future career aspects. I am no longer Alice Newall the student, but the owner of my own business who can use her skills in editing and videography to offer the best services to future employers. If you’re thinking ‘why do a master’s degree for a creative career?’, think of it not only as further depth of studying for a subject you love, but as new skill or career path that can elevate your learning experience to turn you into a professional freelancer.
But enough about me, you are reading this to find out why you should come to the University of Salford, and or study a master’s degree at all. Well do not fear, I have no plans to bore you with a long blog. Instead, I have created a piece of short-form video content that can hopefully market the idea of a master’s degree to you, whether they be at Salford, or any of the 164 universities offering them in the UK.
Please enjoy this video explaining the “Reasons you should do a creative master’s degree”.
